This woman (I won’t even say ‘girl’, although if that is a photo of her, is she even 18?) writes like an idiot and probably doesn’t have a great grasp on what actual reality is.
I pay my bills and can dress myself and have a yoga membership as well as donate to non-profit organizations, get myself a bus pass and pay off student debt while having and acquiring tattoos. I am employed not because of what I may or may not have on my skin, but because I am damn charming, intelligent at some things, and a good listener.
My attention span likely would have diverted back to important things if this had not been sent to me by Joe, who added “How about ‘enjoy your body and do what you want to be happy’ and not ‘go to the gym and be this standard of pretty so you can control your man’ ” And I agree. I agree just as much as I appreciate my body and feel confident about the things I have to offer that you can’t see.
In conclusion, she can have her botched angel wing tattoos and her “God knows the last thing we need is another generation of kids questioning their values and morals”, but I’ll take my art, memories and good times, thanks. I’d rather tell my grandchildren the story of how Joe and I got matching coffee cup tattoos during the Vancouver blizzard of 2009 because we love each other and there was nothing else to do than have them think I listened to women whose idea of liberation was going to the gym or getting my nails did in high heels.
